Since 1 July 2015, the Diepholz-based company has sourced its energy from hydroelectricity produced at the Stadtwerk Huntetal Diepholz (municipal utility company) and is therefore saving approximately 1,170 tonnes of CO2 per year. Managing director of the Stadtwerk Waldemar Opalla and Head of the Business Customer Division Lars Thieman presented OMEGA directors Walter D. Olbert, J\u00fcrgen Exner and Joel Olbert, who is responsible for strategic development at the company, with the Natural Electricity Certificate in recognition of the company\u2019s commitment to the environment.<\/p>\n
\u2018We take sustainability and protecting the environment very seriously at OMEGA,\u2019 explains Joel Olbert. \u2018We go to great lengths to ensure that our manufacturing processes are as climate-friendly and energy-efficient as possible. Utilising renewable energy from the Stadtwerk once again underscores our ecological practices and enables us to further reduce our carbon footprint.\u2019 OMEGA has achieved certification in environmental and energy management and continuously implements energy-saving and environmentally-friendly measures. A further example of the company\u2019s commitment to the environment is demonstrated by work that is currently taking place to convert all of the lighting in the company over to energy efficient LED light fittings.<\/p>\n
Managing Director of the Stadtwerk Waldemar Opalla is pleased that increasing numbers of companies in the region are turning to renewable energy. \u2018Corporate responsibility also means adopting sustainable and ecologically-friendly practices and many companies based in the region are recognising this fact and putting their faith in the renewable energy that we can supply. This not only helps to protect the environment, it also makes an important contribution towards the Energiewende (Germany\u2019s effort to transition to a low carbon energy supply) on a local level.\u2019<\/p>\n
A proportion of the profits that are made from renewable energy supplied by the Stadtwerk has been paid into a climate protection fund over the past few years. This fund promotes environmental protection projects in the region, for example the development of an infrastructure to support electromobility and the installation of solar lights.
